Course Description: The purpose of English 108 is to develop communications skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the context of learning about and developing technical reports. Although the course objectives may be attained by doing an individual project, the development of management and group skills is enhanced by working in a group of three-to-five people. Students propose projects, do the research required, and create written reports and oral presentations on the project. In group projects, students practice techniques in consensus-building, negotiating, and meeting skills (procedures, agendas, minutes). In individual projects students practice time management and reporting skills through frequent status reports. Students develop their reading and writing skills through the various types of research and presentations required. |
