Course Description This course is designed to prepare professional-technical students for career-oriented writing, reading, and speaking tasks. There is a review of grammar and writing basic skills with an emphasis on points related to writing resumes, cover letters, and research papers related to the technical-professional workplace. The Handbook of Technical Writing provides a resource for editing and formatting exercises. The grammar review includes parallel structure and uses of the passive voice. Writing practice is integrated in content-based research and reading. Students practice writing paragraphs and summaries with a specific focus on human relations subjects such as diversity, gender bias, and workplace relations. The research assignments focus on various means of gathering, summarizing, and synthesizing information. Students create a survey and report using MS PowerPoint and a personal Career Portfolio. |
