SSCC accepts anyone who is 18 years old and older or is a high school graduate. Special consideration may be given for individuals who do not meet these guidelines, such as high school students participating in Career Link, Running Start and Tech Prep. Individuals with special needs and/or disabilities are encouraged to contact Disability Support Services.
Welcome, New Students!
- All NEW SSCC students must go through ADMISSIONS (206) 934-7943
- The Admissions Office assigns you a Student ID (SID) number, which is REQUIRED for registration into any class. This can be done in-person or through the online Web Admissions form.
- Students who have an SID through Seattle Central CC or North Seattle CC, but have not taken classes at South Seattle CC, will need to fill out an online Web Admissions form.
- Take a placement test through Student Assessment Services (206) 934-6767
- All new students at SSCC must take either the Standard COMPASS or the ESL/COMPASS test for initial placement into college coursework and programs. It is not a pass or fail test.
- All 100-299 level courses require minimum COMPASS scores of Writing 68, Reading 81; except as noted in individual course prerequisites.
- Compass test scores are good for 2 years only, and must be on file at SSCC.
- Student Assessment Services accepts your ACT scores!
Students with college-level ACT scores (English 19, Reading 19, Math 22) do not need take the COMPASS test. Contact the Assessments office for more information.
- If you have taken and passed a college level English (English composition) or Math (college algebra) course with at least a 2.0, you may not be required to take that portion of the COMPASS test. Attendance Verification Forms:
The Financial Aid department would prefer that your instructor send them proof of your online attendance, following the rules for this.
