teaching onlineSUPPORTED Online Instructional Applications

South's eLearning and TLC (staff and associates) support/train for the following online instructional applications: Canvas (LMS), GA4E (CMS), Tegrity (lecture capture) and Collaborate (webinar).  As such, SSCC's eLearning and TLC staff and associates strongly encourage the use of the above listed tools so that they may be of help/service in matters of use, access, enrollment, etc. Please contact an SSCC TLC Associate for assistance.

  1. To teach a fully online or hybrid course for South Seattle Community College (SSCC), you must have prior approval from your dean.
  2. To provide a web-enhanced course for SSCC, using Google Apps for Education (GA4E) does not require permission from a dean. However, TLC and eLearning support/training and strongly advised and encouraged. Please contact an SSCC TLC Associate for assistance.
  3. To teach with Canvas, faculty are REQUIRED to successfully pass the SSCC Canvas Training BEFORE their quarter begins: https://sites.google.com/a/seattlecolleges.edu/canvas/training-opportunities/lms-training-sign-up-sheet
  4. Once Canvas training has been successfully completed, an instructor must fill out the following online form quarterly: CANVAS COURSE SHELL (and x-list) REQUEST FORM before the start of registration each quarter to get their course Canvas shell(s) created for population of incoming students. A dean must approve this request for an Canvas shell.

NON-SUPPORTED Online Instructional Applications
Faculty can use alternative applications (Examples of alternative instructional applications not supported by South's eLearning or TLC staff: Hawkes, Moodle, Sakai, WAMAP, etc.). However they must do so with the understanding that South's eLearning and TLC (staff and associates) do not provide support or training for faculty and students using alternative applications.

FULLY ONLINE courses have NO required seat/campus time.

HYBRID ONLINE courses have some required seat time (example: required labs) time. Example: Biology online requires some lab time, making it a hybrid online course.

WEB-ENHANCED courses require campus/seat time and can include online resources (syllabus, assignments, calendar, etc.) provided by the instructor.

Contact SSCC eLearning/TLC Coordinator, Sara Newman with any questions regarding online instruction.
