| Marc Franco was
born at an early age in the wilds of Boise, Idaho, and grew up in the
civilized surroundings of Richland, Washington. He received a BS degree
in Zoology in 1971, and later a BS in Mathematics, from the University
of Washington. Two lovely years were then spent in the Peace Corps in
Ghana, in West Africa, spending the time teaching some terrific
students and fighting with his three pet monkeys, who always knew what
he wanted, but who did not care. |

He
attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina and
received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1980. The doctoral research
described the glycocalyx of the red-cell membrane. Two more years were
then spent in Kiel, (West) Germany doing post-doctoral research, again
on red-cell membranes, and teaching biochemistry at the medical school
in Kiel. Further research on membrane biochemistry was continued upon
returning to Seattle in 1982. He decided, however, to take up full-
time teaching at SSCC in fall of 1984, teaching mathematics until 1990,
and then exclusively biology and chemistry since then. |
