Cutting Edge Chemistry

General Chemistry I

Chemistry 161 is the first course of a three-quarter sequence designed to introduce the principles of chemistry and teach basic laboratory techniques. It is intended for students who plan to major in science or engineering and/or who expect to transfer to a 4-year university. The CHEM 161/162/163 series prepares students for advanced courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and other scientific fields.

This series of courses investigates the fundamental connection between the quantum mechanical behavior of atoms and molecules and the macroscopic behavior of matter and energy. This is an exciting, complex subject, and it has intrigued scientists for hundreds, if not thousands of years.

Welcome to class! Here are a few of the things you should do this week:

First Week To Do List:
1. Buy goggles at the bookstore
2. Purchase the South Seattle 161 Lab Manual at the copy center (available end of the week or Monday)
3. Sign up for our online homework system, Sapling Learning
