Write a one-page paper on one of the following 14th Amendment topics:
1. Some lawmakers have recently proposed the repeal of the 14th Amendment to prevent "birthright" citizenship for babies born on U.S. soil, of illegal/undocumented immigrant parents. Should our lawmakers pursue this action? Why or why not?
2. Some voters view the judicial overturning of California's Proposition 8 (same-sex marriage ban) as going against the "will of the people." The 14th Amendment says that all persons have equal protection under the law of the Constitution. Should individuals be allowed to vote on the fundamental rights of other individuals? Why or why not?
